The Disordered Community Space (Special Announcement)

The Disordered Community Space (Special Announcement)

After many months of building and planning, the Disordered Community space is now live. We could not be more pleased about this!

Check out the community space here:

Why did we do this?

  • Endless scroll, algorithm-driven, attention focused platforms that only want to monetize your struggle are awful places to support anxious people.
  • A smaller, more focused, intentional community where we can interact in a meaningful way and foster education, inspiration, and encouragement is actually useful in the real world.
  • There are way too many anxiety "communities" that make egregious promises to fix you, cure you, lead you to freedom, and make you better - often at a very high cost. That's not how to do that.
  • We're personally tired of dancing for Meta and Google. It's a huge amount of work to reach a small number of people (even with lots of followers) on platforms that don't really value the topic and the discussions we're having.

We built this space to foster interaction, sharing, cheerleading, and encouragement. We've jammed it full of articles, tips, ideas, podcast episodes, and all the psychoeducational workshops we've produced over the years. All included in the community.

You do NOT have to join the community to get better. This is absolutely optional and we're not going to hide things behind the paywall. Our content will continue to be out here on the Internet at large. But we do think we've made something useful and reasonable and that's where we're gonna be hanging out.

Disordered Roundtable is coming! Think of it as "Disordered Live", a way for members of our audience to spend time with us in an intimate virtual setting (attendance is limited) to engage in real time sharing and discussion on specific anxiety disorder and recovery topics. To be notified when new Disordered Roundtable sessions are scheduled, sign up for our email list using the form on this page.

Oh, welcome to Disordered. There's no episode number on this. It's a bonus episode. What are we talking about? What does that sound mean? That for us tragic. Tragic fanfare. We must only mean one thing. We have something to announce. What would that be?

SPEAKER_01

Going to announce the disordered community app that we've been hinting about is now live. We can have um a nice pool of members and people who have signed up to the newsletter, um, got first access to it. It's a place to come and hang out, share you did it, anyways. There is a wealth of resources, workshops, articles, endless stuff that Drew and I have been working on over the years. It's where we're gonna hang out. We want to catch up with you guys. You can catch up and interact with other members of the community, you can reflect on podcast episodes. There's loads of stuff. If you want a place to hang out outside of the podcast with like-minded people going through similar things, you can come and join the disordered podcast community.

SPEAKER_00

So far, it's been really fun. Like my favorite part about this, aside from the people, which are the best part of it, is that there's no algorithm. Nobody decides what you see. You decide what you see. You don't have to like stuff. We don't need attention. Just like access the resources any way you want to, ask questions any way you want to. So much better. So much better.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's just nice. I I personally step away from like meta and things like that now. I don't want to fight in the attention economy. What a nice, chilled-out place where I can interact with the people I want to interact with, i.e., people in our community going through similar things. And yeah, if you want to come along, you can. It's not mandatory. We're not going to gatekeep. You can have everything on the podcast that we've been doing for years, and we'll continue to do. But if you want that, you know, a little bit of extra, or you want to feel, you know, around similar people going through similar things, apply the principles, then you can come and join us at disorder.fm and find out more.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, disorder.fm slash community. We'll get you to the landing page, you can read all about it, see what's all the goodies are there. Cool thing that I really like is all of our old workshops and stuff are there. You don't have to buy, like, you know, worry and rumination explained independently. If you're in the community, join the community, well, it's all there. There's like 15 or 20 hours worth of workshops, they're just free in there. Go watch.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I like it as well. Someone was looking at uh an old article that you wrote, actually, Drew, and then there's a little discussion under it, like, oh, this actually helped me, or no, what do you think of this? And blah, and it's really supportive. Uh, yeah, all the old workshops there, the DPDR workshop, panic attack workshop, it's all there. Um, it is a subscription-based uh because we have to pay for the app, yeah, and it's our work and stuff. Uh, but that's there not only to pay for the app, but it ensures that the app is not community is not flooded with people, uh, and it's kind of we have to do have to approve people to come in as well. So we do kind of have to screen people and they're in there, but it's for people who listen to the podcast. If you're a fan of Disordered, which we really appreciate, and you want a community to check in and check out, we'll be doing live streams on there, asking questions, and it's a place where we can start doing the round tables again, Drew. I miss them.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, it's really great, and again, it's just all included in one thing. So, you know, we made it really affordable. I think we did anyway. We did our best because we do have to cover our cost. And I'll tell you one thing that I is also very important to us. This is not, we're not promising anybody freedom, healing, like instant recovery. There's no overpromising here. This is not a place that you come because you have to to get better. You don't join the community, just listen to the podcast, read the books and stuff, do the work on your own, you'll get better. It's okay. You don't need this. So we were really careful about that. This is not promising that we are going to fix you in a community. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Come as you are. Yeah, 100%. You know, that's it. Wherever you're at, you're not gonna be told you're doing things right, you're not gonna be told you're doing things wrong, just where you're at. But if you want some cheerleaders from around the world that perhaps have similar disposition to you, that's the place to go. Uh, also, it's not all just about anxiety there. I uploaded a picture offering Drew a bowl of guacamole, uh, because he told me about his avocado uh allergy. Um, so yeah, there's some sadistic stuff on there too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, people are not wasting time to roast us a little bit, which is always fun.

SPEAKER_01

But uh, I just got roasted for not playing softball. I was like, in the UK, we play rounders.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, what's that all about? We have that that we launched a whole part of the app uh or the community called uh non-anxious you. So, like we want to talk about books, you want to talk about music, you want to actually practice putting your attention to things that are not anxiety, like that's a place to do it. And you know what? It's a quieter place, it's focused, it's not a torrent of endless scrolling, there's no flicking your thumb for hours and hours. I'm happy with that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we're gonna add a meditation section as well on the workshops, anxiety, disorder, informed meditations. I like the book clubs, stuff like that. And it's just a place for you to drop in, it's your community as well as it. That's where we're gonna be hanging out. I'm done with the other stuff. Uh, I'm always in there, it's dead nice and chatting to people and you know, messaging and encouraging, and so is Drew. Uh, and what I really enjoy is that there's a lovely button in the app, isn't there? I just go live and I sit there and I have my lunch. And if anyone wants to come join and chat and things, then you're more than welcome to.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's really great. You know, I come and go as you please. You don't have to fork over hundreds or thousands of dollars, hang out for months or years. If you find a couple, hang out. If you don't, it's okay. You can cancel.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So if you want to come along, yeah, we'll see you there. If not, that's okay too. You're not missing out on anything. We're not trying to do that, we won't do that. Just that's what it's there for. And dead selfishly, we just like hanging out there. We both said we want to do this, it's just fun. Yeah, it is fun.

SPEAKER_00

Should we end with our fanfare? Because it's really inspiring. Who doesn't get inspired by this?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Rise to the day to this inspiring music.

SPEAKER_00

That would be at disorder.fm slash community. Check it out. Thanks, guys. That's pitiful.

SPEAKER_01

Wow.
